Description
Windy SR44 - what we know.
The SR44 Blackhawk is the build we ask Windy for when a programme needs genuine offshore performance in a 14-metre hull. At 14.46m on the outboard configuration and 14.03m inboard, it sits at a size that either stows in a large tender garage or works credibly as a chase boat alongside a flagship mothership. The deep-V hullform, drawn by naval architect Hans Jørgen Johnsen and developed with Dubois Naval Architects Ltd, is the same design philosophy that drives the larger SR52 - proven seakeeping, not a scaled drawing.
Performance figures are split by drivetrain: the outboard variant reaches 52 knots and the inboard 44 knots, both subject to load and sea state. A quoted range of 275 nm gives meaningful passage-making capability, which separates this model from purely day-use sports boats in the same size bracket. Lightship displacement is 10.1 tonnes, so any mothership integration needs a davit or crane system rated accordingly.
The interior is the work of Design Unlimited and the Windy Design team. The lower deck is configured for extended stays, with a full cabin, galley, and heads visible in the published imagery. Bespoke storage solutions - including purpose-built dive bottle stowage - indicate that Windy builds to owner briefs rather than to a fixed fit-out list. For a captain specifying a tender that will run a serious watersports and dive programme, that flexibility is worth noting.
Built for the work.
The four details we'd point out first to a captain who hasn't seen one on the water yet.
1. Dual drivetrain options
The SR44 is offered in both inboard and outboard configurations, with top speeds of 44 kn and 52 kn respectively. The split allows owners to optimise for garage depth, maintenance access, or outright pace depending on the mothership programme.
2. 275 nm range
A quoted range of 275 nm is substantial for a 14-metre sports tender. It supports extended coastal passages without requiring a fuel rendezvous and gives captains genuine flexibility when the mothership is anchored off a remote coastline.
3. Design Unlimited interior
The lower-deck fit-out was executed by Design Unlimited, the studio behind interiors on a number of significant superyacht projects. Cabin, galley, and heads are present, making the SR44 credible for overnight use rather than purely day runs.
4. Hans Jørgen Johnsen deep-V hull
The hullform carries Hans Jørgen Johnsen's signature deep-V geometry, developed in collaboration with Dubois Naval Architects Ltd. The same architecture underpins the SR52, giving the SR44 a pedigree that extends beyond the model itself.
